A special award will be awarded to the best goalscorer at the International Soccer Championships in Europe this summer. European football’s governing body, UEFA, and the tournament’s sponsor, Russia’s Gazprom, are behind the initiative to present the winner with the NXT trophy.
UEFA, Gazprom to present Best Targets Award at Euro 2020
The unique award will be awarded as part of a sponsorship agreement with the Russian energy giant, which UEFA and Gazprom have recently extended for another three years. The deal includes two European national football team finals as well as the Champions League, Europe’s most prestigious professional football club tournament.
Irreparable token (NXT) Will represent an original artwork by a famous Russian artist which will be produced in the fan zone in St. Petersburg. UEFA, Russia’s second largest city, will host seven of the 51 matches in Euro 2020 to be played in a dozen different cities across Europe. The tournament was postponed last year due to the Kovid-19 crisis, but retained its original designation.
Organizers plan to destroy the physical artwork but a piece will be kept and awarded to the winner of the “Best Goal” trophy. “The artwork will be scanned into a 3D animated video, which becomes the basis for creating the NXT token,” said Gazprom, quoted by the Associated Press. The tournament name, player name and key values of the Football for Friendship Program will be coded in NXT, the company elaborated.
The winner will be awarded the NXT Award at UEFA Headquarters
Euro 2020 This year is scheduled to take place on 11 June – 11 July, with participation from 24 national football teams.
